Russian as a Foreign Language school ‘Sovincentr’. V/O Sovincentr, the World Trade Centre, was built in Moscow in 1979 to promote commercial, scientific and technological cooperation with foreign countries. It was one of the USSR Chamber of Commerce managing units. There and then a school of RFL opened for foreign businessmen, journalists, diplomats and their family members. Russian language was taught using direct communicative method without any intermediary language. The students were taken on tours of the city, on visits to museums and theatres, to meetings with actors, journalists and politicians. An approach was developed that suited students of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds.
School history
Russian-American joined venture ‘BERLITZ-Sovincentr language school’. BERLITZ International Inc. chief executives visited Moscow and the project of establishing a joint venture was approved of by the USSR Chamber of Commerce. Thus the school began teaching foreign languages with the Berlitz method. The new language school became immensely popular thanks to the unique method, specially trained teachers, textbooks and other materials printed and provided by BERLITZ. Students were able to master foreign languages quickly and efficiently. For the first time, Soviet people were given the opportunity to study foreign languages using the world-famous method developed by Maximilian Berlitz.
ANO ‘Moscow language institute’ was registered in 1996 in accordance with the Law of education. The school was established with the support and assistance of Moscow City Council. As well as teaching foreign languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew), the school continues to teach Russian as a foreign language to multinational companies executives, embassies and consulates staff members and other foreign people. There is also a highly effective method of teaching Russian language, ‘The algorithm of practical literacy’, on which the course of ‘Russian without mistakes’ is based. The school has its ways and traditions, maintains high standards of teaching and keeps up with modern trends and requirements.
The foreign and Russian language courses are available in forms of individual tuition, groups and lessons given at companies offices. Our teachers use the direct communicative method of language teaching aimed at developing speaking skills. Students can prepare for international exams IELTS, TOEFL, FCE, TOEIC.
Leonid Volodarsky gives his workshop seminars for translators and interpreters.Schoolchildren can prepare for the State exams in English and Russian and also for exams to enter universities in Russia or abroad. Summer courses for schoolchildren enjoy popularity too.
There are specialist language courses for people working in HoReCa, banking, medical and healthcare, law, sport, etc.
Lessons are given daily according to the course and schedule appointed. Levels available are from ‘beginner’ to ‘advanced’. Each level course takes from 80 to 120 academic hours (1 ac. hour = 45 min).
All our teachers have relevant academic qualifications and are well trained in the methods of language teaching approved of at the school. And they encourage students to speak the language from the very beginning.
At the end of each course our students are given a school certificate.
